DR SAM COULTER-SMITH
 MD, FRCOG, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr. Sam Coulter-Smith qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1987. His initial training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was done at the Rotunda Hospital before moving to the United Kingdom where he completed his MRCOG and obtained further experience and training in the Hammersmith Hospital, Kings College Hospital, London, and the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

While in the UK he did his clinical research in the area of Familial Ovarian Cancer Screening and Trans-Vaginal Ultrasound. He returned to the Rotunda Hospital as Assistant Master in 1996 and rotated between the Rotunda and the National Maternity Hospital as a Senior Registrar until 2002. He was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to the Rotunda Hospital in late 2002 and during his time as a consultant at the Rotunda he has further developed the Diabetic Clinic, the DOVE Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy and the Ovarian Screening Unit. 
He was elected as Master of the Rotunda during 2008 and took up the position in January 2009. He has a wide range of interests in general obstetrics and in gynaecology retains a special interest in familial ovarian cancer screening and also pelvic floor surgery. As CEO of the Hospital he strives to attain and maintain the highest possible standards of patient care and to maintain the highest possible standards in terms of hospital hygiene and health service accreditation.
In addition to managing the Hospital with the other two members of the Senior Management Team, Dr. Coulter-Smith continues to see patients on a daily basis in clinics and on ward rounds. He also has a teaching commitment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has been appointed as Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Trinity College Dublin and Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists and sits on a number of national committees. He is also a member of the Women’s Health Council.

MS PAULINE TREANOR
MBA (Health & Social Care)

Ms Treanor trained as a nurse and midwife and held a number of senior posts in Midwifery management. She was awarded an MBA in 1998 from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, Northern Ireland.

In December 1999 Ms Treanor was appointed as Nurse Manager for Women`s Services in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and remained there until April 2001 when she was appointed Director of Midwifery and Nursing in the Rotunda Hospital. 

During the next seven and a half years Ms Treanor was a member of the Executive Management Team in the Rotunda Hospital and was appointed Secretary/Group General Manager in December 2008. Ms Treanor is committed to the development of maternity services that meet the needs of women in the 21st century.

DIRECTOR OF MIDWIFERY/NURSING

MS MARGARET PHILBIN
MSc (Health Services Management)

Margaret trained as a General Nurse in the Royal City of Dublin Hospital, Baggot Street, and left in 1982 to undertake Midwifery Training in The Rotunda Hospital.  She has practiced as a Midwife since then, in a variety of areas within the Hospital.

In 1995 Margaret temporarily left clinical midwifery practice for a period of one year to assist in the establishment of a computerised patient administration and obstetric management system for The Rotunda Hospital. She returned to clinical practice in 1996 and continued to work in managerial roles within the Hospital focusing on improving services for those attending for care and was appointed Assistant Director of Midwifery & Nursing in 2001.

In 2005 Margaret was awarded an M.S.c. in Health Services Management from Trinity College Dublin. Margaret was appointed Director of Midwifery & Nursing in January 2009 and is committed to working with staff and patients in the provision of the highest quality women and baby centred care.
