The Rotunda Hospital gave a warm welcome back to five very special graduates from its Neonatal Unit on 31 March 2015.

Veronica Cassidy gave birth to Irelands first quintuplets on 16 August  2001.  The quins were born at 25 weeks and 4 days and weighed between 600 grams and 800 grams.  After receiving highly specialised care in the Neonatal Unit over the following weeks and months, they were all reunited at home on 7 December 2001.

The Cassidys were delighted to return to the Rotunda to meet some of the staff who cared for them over 13 years previously.  Dr Peter McKenna, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who cared for Veronica was particularly delighted to see them all so healthy and well.  He congratulated Veronica and Kevin on the care, love and attention they have so obviously provided in abundance over the years.  The "famous five" as the media dubbed were more than happy to give interviews and talk about their experiences.

The quins, who are completing 1st year in the vocational school in Bridgewater, Wexford were delighted to hear some stories of the night of their arrival and the care they received over the early weeks of their lives from the nurses who cared from them in the Neonatal Unit.

The breadth and depth of their personalities and interest was evident to all those who met with them.
